Fonteine borans

Location: Farm Groenfontein, Derby, South Africa, 0832738332

In 2003 we bought our first 6 Boran cows from David Green. Afterwards a combination of Kenia embryos and flushing our own cattle helped to grow our herd.  Breeding with two exceptional herd sires like Caesar (TLM 02-04) and HVT 97-017 ensured a high retention rate of the progeny. This enabled us to have annual production auctions since 2009.

Our goal is to breed productive, low maintenance, well adapted cattle that are easy to farm with. Profitability is the main objective. In order to reach this goal we make use of a wide variety of Boran genetics from Kenia and Zambia.

Cattle Type: Boran

Meat Quality: Boran cattle are known for producing high-quality, tender beef. They are considered a superior breed in terms of meat quality, particularly in their ability to produce tender meat with good marbling. Studies have shown that Boran meat consistently outperforms other Zebu breeds in terms of tenderness, marbling, and rib eye area.
